Well, the festivities are ended. Three weeks of intensive preparation culminated in approximately eight hours of semi-conviviality, aided no doubt by the liberal application of a somewhat local wine appropriately named ‘Jester’s Blush’.

The festivities were only mildly marred by the fact that my mother is having difficulty recovering from her recent surgery and was at her doctor’s office immediately prior to dinner. Hopefully, they’ve corrected the problem and her recovery will proceed apace…

Amazingly, people started showing up exactly on time, for which I was totally unprepared. I had adjusted for the normal two-to-three hours that the majority of the family usually runs late. This ‘showing up on time’ thing completely rattled me.

In total there were (*counts, runs out of fingers… takes off socks… counts again… runs out of toes… resorts to appendage of last recourse*) 21 people for dinner. Of course I, being a reincarnated chef for some oversized traveling cavalcade, made too much food, resulting in too many leftovers… anyone hungry?

Gifts were exchanged, movies were viewed and everyone seems to have left sated. The following day was given to doing dished and general post-party cleaning up.

Hrm… looking over this, it seems a bit rambley and disjointed. It seems my wit and general verbosity have taken the holidays off. As has my mind, but that happened some time ago, I believe. Perhaps they’ll return with the coming new year…

Which reminds me: May the coming year be one of joy, peace and prosperity for all of you. Happy New Year!
